3 STRETCHES THAT DO MORE THAN A QUICK ADJUSTMENT
Many people think of chiropractic care as a quick “pop” or adjustment that brings immediate relief. While adjustments can be powerful, lasting results often come from what you do between visits. That’s where stretches come in.
I focus on muscles and soft tissues as much as bones and joints — because when muscles are balanced and flexible, adjustments hold longer, movement improves, and pain decreases. Here are three simple stretches you can add to your daily routine that go beyond short-term relief and support your long-term health.
1. Low Lunge Stretch (Targets the Psoas and Hip Flexors)
Why it matters: Tight hip flexors and psoas muscles are one of the most common contributors to low back pain and poor posture.
How to do it:
Start in a lunge position with your back knee on the floor.
Keep your chest upright and gently shift your hips forward until you feel a stretch in the front of the hip.
Hold for 20–30 seconds per side, breathing deeply.
2. Child’s Pose with Side Reach (Targets the Lower Back and Lats)
Why it matters: This stretch relieves tension in the lower back while opening up the sides of the body, reducing stiffness from sitting or lifting.
How to do it:
Kneel on the floor and sit back on your heels.
Stretch your arms forward on the ground, then walk your hands slightly to one side to lengthen the opposite side of your torso.
Hold for 20–30 seconds, then switch sides.
3. Seated Figure-4 Stretch (Targets the Glutes and Piriformis)
Why it matters: Tight glutes and piriformis muscles can irritate the sciatic nerve, causing hip or leg pain.
How to do it:
Sit in a chair with your feet flat.
Cross one ankle over the opposite knee.
Keep your back straight and gently lean forward until you feel a stretch in your hip.
Hold for 20–30 seconds per side.
Why These Stretches Work
These stretches do more than loosen muscles—they help your adjustments last longer by reducing tension, improving alignment, and re-training your body to move properly. Think of them as teamwork: chiropractic care restores balance, while stretching maintains it.
If you are looking for relief that lasts and movement that feels effortless, pair your chiropractic care with smart stretching. These three stretches are a great start, but a personalized plan based on your unique needs can take you even further.
